First RUS wagering race in North America – July 13, 2014

The sport utilizes Standardbred horses, a breed of racehorse more popularly known for sulky (cart) racing with a driver riding behind the horse, and puts a saddle and rider on top of the horse! RUS Ontario has proved to be an exciting addition to the North American racing scene by gaining popularity in recent years. RUS initially came to fruition when Ontario horse people viewed monté overseas, and after a couple brief seasons of exhibition races, pari-mutuel wagering was granted to Canadian RUS races in 2014. The first wagering race in North America took place at Clinton Raceway in 2014.

RUS Ontario aims to continue to grow and be an exciting addition to the Canadian racing industry!

You can follow the growth of RUS on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for further updates!
